A professional D-frame kick net for benthic macroinvertebrate collection — a 250 mm marine-grade aluminium frame and solid wood handle carrying a 500 micron mesh net, built for travelling-kick and riffle sampling under OBBN and CABIN.

The D-Net is the net that fills the Bug Box. It’s built around a sturdy metal frame: a marine-grade aluminium outer frame with an inner brass frame that clamps the net bag in place, giving it real resistance to wear and tear in the field.
The 500 micron mesh is a precision net sized for benthic macroinvertebrate work — fine enough to retain the organisms OBBN and CABIN target, including smaller early-instar specimens, while letting fine sediment and water pass. The net bag is removable, so it can be rinsed, replaced, or swapped for a different mesh on the same frame.
The solid wood handle is a deliberate choice: unlike aluminium, wood floats if you drop it, and it stays comfortable to hold in cold water over a long sampling day.
Mesh size sets what you catch. A 500 micron mesh retains the macroinvertebrates OBBN and CABIN target — including smaller early-instar specimens — while letting fine sediment and water pass through, keeping your sample clean and the net light in the current. Coarser meshes let small taxa slip through; much finer meshes clog with silt.
The outer frame is marine-grade aluminium with an inner brass frame that holds the net bag securely and resists wear. Because the bag is removable, a single frame and handle can carry different nets over its life — rinse and swap in the field, or replace a worn bag without replacing the whole net.
